Jazzing it up in Goa

Goa International Jazz Live Festival to experiment with new-age Jazz

New Delhi: A contemporary and eclectic take on the classic jazz sound, the Goa International Jazz Live Festival (GJILF) 2016 runs between 26th and 27th of November as part of Teamwork Arts’ Jazz India Circuit. The Festival revels in ‘The Joy of the Experiment’, with a definite aim to push the boundaries of what typically constitutes the sound of the genre. The GIJLF mixes punk, hip-hop, R&B and other forms of music with jazz to come up with tunes that appeal to both the ears and feet. While at the heart of the festival is jazz, the body and the soul are spiced up with experimental jams filled with punk, funk and other genres. The heady cocktail of artistes who comprise the line-up include the likes of Hely (Switzerland), DMT Jazz Trio (Delhi), Gael Horellou Identite (Reunion Island), Yuichiro Tokuda’s Ralyzzdig (Japan), Tam De Villiers Quartet (France), World Service Project (UK), Malika Tirolien (Canada), and Steve Sequeira Ensemble (Goa).

While GIJLF is a celebration of the experimental and new age, Jazz Yatra in Delhi, with its glorious three-decade legacy, is a tip of the hat to old-world classic jazz. Together they will herald the first season of the Jazz India Circuit, an endeavour from Teamwork Arts to spread the word and sound of jazz among Indian audiences and showcase a diverse spectrum of the fascinating genre.
